In December 1962 approximately some five to ten of God's choice men, lstening to the voice of God and following His leadership to begin a Fundamental, Independent, Missionary Baptist Church on the south side of Gainesville, met on the property of 1618 Lyman Street Gainesville, Ga. These were just ordinary men, none of great wealth but all willing servants of our great God. They prayed, they offered themselves and God began a great work. One of the men, Rev. James Ransom, offered to lead this work. Another, Bro., R.C. West, offered the financial backing. Along with these, others offered to give of their time, talents, and monies to make a vision into a reality. On Feburary 10, 1963 with 26 charter members, this work was organized and established as Temple Missionary Baptist Church and elected Rev. James Ransom as pastor. For the following 41 years, Bro. Ransom faithfully pastored Temple Missionary Baptist Chruch until on Feburary 27, 2005, due to health problems, he announced his resignation. An era had ended, our dedicated leader was stepping down as pastor of the Church he had led through a lot of good times and some bad times but always with God as his leader he led the congregation in the paths given in the King James Word of God, the Holy Scriptures. Pastors changed but the consistency of God was ever present in this great work of the Lord. On December 6, 2006, Bro. Douglas Gaines, another member of Temple, a didicated young man, called by God, filled with zeal, love and a desire to serve where God directed, was elected Pastor of Temple Missionary Baptist Chruch. We thank the Lord for our Chruch, its members, and our pastors but above all, we thank him for his presence. His leadership and his blessings so generously bestowed on this people who meet to worship at this work on the south side of Gainesville, Ga. Pastors have changed, buildings change, even our address has changed but God is forever the same. In 1963, we began at 1616 Westside Dr. in a small bulding with the partitions removed creating one room to house the beginning congregation. Later the future church's basement was completed to accommodate the growign congregation, By 1969 the beautiful brick building was completed as a house of worship for some of the greatest of all people, saints of God, members and visitors of Temple Missionary Baptist Chruch. Although the address changed to 1618 Lyman st., the location is the same and most of all, the purpose of the church is still the same as when it was organized 46 years ago: to worship the God of the universe, to win the lost to Jesus and to lift up and encourage the saved to grow in the knowledge of our wonderful Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY, HONOR AND PRAISE!
